Kingdom Commander was an endeavor of a team of 3, built in our spare time after work. An alpha build was available on Steam, but we ultimately decided to stop working on it.

Long time friends, we were very collaborative and each contributed to all aspects of the game design.

In the teaser video we released below, I made the environment art, building art and animations, and the the UI and HUD.

 
 

Grid System

We developed a system for creating a fast, flexible environments. It proved so successful, we would later take our findings and apply it to larger projects at other companies. Apart from be able to quickly lay down and edit terrain, we could create ‘tile sets’ that could be applied to the level to dramatically change the appearance without additional level work. Below you can see four of the variations created. Each tile set had unique textures, trees, lighting and environmental effects.
